Is that a dial tone I hear? Oh sorry, it's just SARNIA OFF THE HOOK.

April 24th, 2009

Last post from Canada for a while! We celebrated Earth Day in Sarnia by playing two shows. We brought a bunch of friends with us from Torontoand made a fun night of it. We had some adventures! We partied at a mansion! The band wore blue and green as a throw back to public school. Mika wore black,  but hey, we’re realistic and pretended that it represented pollution. Both shows were both super fun and vastly different. In the early evening we played the Energy Exchange, a new community centre that will house art studios, woodshops etc. It was really nice and the audience was super attentive. I had a coffee earlier so I think I probably talked a lot. I took their photo and it looked like a grade five class on their best behaviour.  Loved it. Thanks to Shawn McKnight for organising the performance, it was an honour to celebrate his accomplishments!

yum

The next show we played was the first night of Empty Fest, curated by ex-Sarnia-pat Eric Woolston, and it was crazy. We played with some awesome local bands and there was a really pumped up crowd. There were even some awesome MEGA AWESOME fans that made costumes. They rocked.

These are good people.

These are good people.

Our friend Colin Medley was there to film some of the craziness. Check out his video above (and you should check out his blog, it’s a good’n!). Apparently the floor was moving under the weight of everyone jumping. Call me crazy, but how awesome is it that people were moshing and dancing and freakin out? We’re not even a rock band! Made my night.

In other news, Kyle is living with Mika and I and he’s been playing the new Camera Obscura album lots and it rocks. I am still waiting for my new Anni Rossi vinyl to arrive. If you can, you should check out her show on the 27th. We will be in the air, but you should be at the concert.

bye bye bye!

Hibiscus & Rosehips

April 14th, 2009

Hi friends.

I just wanted to write a little note about an event coming up this weekend that we are  supporting. Maybe you should check it out! I know that I am going to be there.  We recently were asked to donate a song for a charity compilation cd called Hibiscus & Rosehips, benefitting The Hibiscus Fund. The organisation supports lympohoma patients and their familes and provides them with the care they require. The compilation disc is curated by Erin Lang and she’s pooled a great number of talents to get behind the project, including our dear friends and (labelmates) Timber Timbre, Ohbijou and Snailhouse and one of my local favs, Snowblink. The full tracklisting is below and you can take a listen to it and preorder the cd on the official Hibiscus & Rosehips website.

There is a celebration and fundraiser this Sunday April 19 at The Resistor Gallery in Toronto (1-6pm,  all ages)  and there will be treats both for the tum-tums and the earsdrums.

Go buy the cd and feel good about it!!

A Brace of Bucks

April 6th, 2009

If you missed the show at Rolly’s Garage the other day, here is some of the fun that Emily and I had, captured on video! This was the first time that Em and I had played together outside of her living room. It was super fun and I’m sure we’ll do it again. Thank you to the NeXW Blog for the shots.
