Friends.
As you’re probably well aware from the media coverage, the people of Haiti are in a terrible situation. The massive need for food, water and supplies is getting desperate. Have you ever been in an earthquake? I have been in a medium size one and let me tell you it’s scary. Not only is it incredibly frightening to have the earth move under your feet, but to lose your home, your family and your friends is utterly devastating. And this one was giant. I cannot fathom being in their situation.
This could have happened anywhere, and it is very important not to consider this a tragedy of “the others.” It could have been California, it could have been Japan. Anywhere. I believe that everyone should help in any way they can. Every bit counts!
To do our part, we will be donating 10% of our merch sales over the next four shows (Guelph, Waterloo, Toronto, Hamilton) to the Red Cross Haiti relief fund. It’s not millions of dollars, but we hope that it will help a little bit. If you’d like to donate further, please go to the Red Cross website.
In lighter news, we’ve been getting a good response to our new video. Thank you for watching it and commenting us! If you haven’t seen it, you can check out some of the mentions in the below web sources.
So, a couple months ago we had plans to shoot a video. It was a detailed plan and involved some out of town travel and a lot of equipment. Well, as things happen, something happened and the shoot had to be cancelled. Not wanting all to be lost, I phoned up my dear friend Colin Medley and we devised a a hacked plan to shoot a video for It I Were A Tree that weekend instead. With some help from friends, strangers and coupla kids, we pulled it together. We couldn’t have asked for a better day to film, the sun was beautiful on that autumn day. The resulting video is a sunny trek through our local park, full of friends, good times and summer vibes. Maybe it will warm you up on this cold (over here anyways) winter day. Or at least make you dance along?
So, I happily present to you the video for If I Were A Tree. Directed by Colin Medley with fantastic camera work by Jared Raab (our great friend from Nirvana the Band the Show which you should check out.) You can purchase the song either on VINYL or in DIGITAL format if that tickles yr fancy.

As the year closes, I have to extend my heartfelt gratitude, on behalf of us all, to everyone that lends support to this project of ours. From all the amazing people we meet on the road, that lend us their homes and warmth, to the people that write us nice emails, who buy our music, who come to shows – and even the people on the business side of things – we are so happy to know you all. It is such a privilege to be able to write music and share it with others, and an opportunity that I don’t take for granted. I can only hope that this coming year will provide even more amazing opportunites, fun memories and most of all, meaningful music, than the last. Without a number of your ears, I would be probably still singing to my dog somewhere. At least now I get to sing to humans. And although I still enjoy singing to my dog, it’s a lot nicer to sing to people that can smile back (without a big drooly tongue hanging out).
Much love,
Kat
P.S: And, although it sort of felt like we hibernated this past year, looking back we still got a lot done. From touring Canada in the winter (again) to graduating university (!), jetting off to Europe in the spring, exploring our Great White North in the summer, visiting our lovely eastern regions in the fall, recording and releasing a vinyl single and ending the year by hunkering down to write and record a new album, it feels like we’re keeping at it. Keeping the proverbial machine well oiled. Thank you thank you thank you thank you.
